Upcoming Release: Gantry 5.5.20 Launching July 23

We’re pleased to announce that Gantry 5.5.20 will officially be released on Wednesday, July 23! This update marks a significant step forward in ensuring long-term stability, modern platform support, and improved developer experience across all supported CMS platforms.

We want to thank everyone for their continued patience during this transition. After extensive testing and refinement, this release will be pushed to the GitHub release branch and Gantry.org, followed shortly by availability in the WordPress and Joomla extension directories.

🔧 Highlights in 5.5.20

🐘 PHP 8.3 & Joomla 5 Compatibility

  • Full compatibility with PHP 8.3
  • Updated minimum PHP version to 8.1
  • Native support for Joomla 5 — no Compatibility Plugin required
  • Modern Joomla namespace refactoring for both J4 and J5 support
  • Multiple class and helper updates to resolve Joomla 5-specific issues

🌙 UI and Platform Enhancements

  • Dark mode for Joomla admin panel
  • Fixed SVG display issues on Joomla 5 login and error pages
  • Improved formatting for large content collections like Infolist
  • Translation fixes and improved layout rendering across platforms

🧰 Under-the-Hood Improvements

  • Dropped support for PHP versions below 8.1
  • Replaced deprecated utf8_encode functions with mb_convert_encoding
  • Removed abandoned leafo/scssphp in favor of scssphp/scssphp
  • Updated dependencies for PHP 8.3
  • Improved handling of missing PHP extensions via composer scripts
  • New documentation for CSP requirements ('unsafe-eval' now required in admin)

  • Dropped Joomla 3.x support
